This September, ProSearch sponsored SOLID East – the Summit on Legal Innovation & Disruption, in New York for the fifth year. The annual conference, founded by David Cowen, President of The Cowen Group is a Ted-Style Talk summit. The Summit featured 16+ speakers who presented on topics that intersect on innovation, advanced technology, and the business of law. The talks were followed by facilitated table talks, panels, and town hall discussions, where participants discuss the key takeaways. This year’s event was attended by 125 individuals who came together to engage and brainstorm in real time to apply these new ideas to their businesses.

“Pandemic Sourdough Bread”

ProSearch’s CEO & Co-Founder Julia Hasenzahl was one of this year’s featured speakers. Julia’s “pandemic sourdough bread” project sparked her presentation – “The Future of Work: Reframing the Discussion.” Julia spoke about her countless hours of reading academic literature, corporate research, surveys, and media stories on remote and hybrid work trying to figure it all out. She landed on one clear thought – that it may just be easier to land a human on Mars than to fix the world’s broken workplaces.”

Julia discussed the importance of training managers to be astronauts to make the future of work successful. Julia said, “Rocket science is easy, social science is hard and the future of work is social science.” Julia’s talk was a hit at SOLID and sparked a long Q&A session from event attendees!

ProSearch is so happy to be back at SOLID following the pandemic. We’re already looking forward to SOLID London in the spring of 2023.

A year ago, we reflected on the growth and change required of us all in the face of an unexpected global pandemic. We looked ahead with optimism that by the time I’d be writing this year-end greeting, the pandemic would be well behind us. Instead, we find ourselves adapted to a new reality.

At ProSearch, this has meant embracing opportunities to develop innovative new solutions that help our clients improve their discovery preparedness and processes for handling enterprise data. Microsoft 365 statistics show business email is still on the rise, and chat volume is up more than 45% since February 2020 – suggesting that remote work has only increased overall communications that may eventually become subject to discovery. Here are a few of the ways we’re helping you deal with all that data:

Microsoft 365 Discovery

As part of our Enterprise offering, ProSearch now offers Microsoft 365 Managed Services. Our analysts, project managers and subject matter experts can help maximize and augment the eDiscovery capabilities within the Microsoft environment to improve data identification and collection, while our advisory services help clients manage Microsoft licenses, data and discovery processes across the EDRM life cycle.

Because Microsoft 365 remains a moving target in terms of its ongoing development, the ProSearch team of engineers continuously monitors the Microsoft road map for updates that will affect existing workflows or provide opportunities to further optimize discovery.

Messaging Solutions

When handling chat data in discovery, the traditional email paradigm doesn’t apply. Since every organization’s data is unique, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. ProSearch has reimagined the way chat data is managed by developing a customizable framework to address the complexity and nuances of each situation. ProSearch WorkStream is our primary tool for:

  • Processing common message formats
  • Culling to identify review sets
  • Exporting to RSMF for review in Relativity

Watch for new review features in WorkStream coming soon!

Data Privacy

Earlier this year ProSearch introduced our latest innovation for addressing modern privacy regulations as part of our holistic approach to discovery. ProSearch Privacy Suite uses deep learning models built on the latest advancements in natural language processing and computer vision techniques to identify protected private information, enabling organizations to better achieve compliance with ever-increasing privacy regulations.

Looking Ahead

Certainly, we are happy to be finding our way back to more in-person work, even as we recognize remote and hybrid environments are here to stay to at least some degree. The legal industry is not immune from the “great resignation,” as many professionals reexamine their priorities and career goals. Parts of the industry are already seeing a shortage of talent in areas like project management.

At ProSearch, we remain committed to ensuring our employees have the flexibility they need to achieve the balance they deserve and a work environment they are proud to be a part of. We continue to seek new opportunities to keep our talented people challenged and enjoying the satisfaction that comes from being part of a team that brings innovative new solutions to the industry. Despite the uncertainty of the ongoing pandemic, there’s never been a more exciting time to be a ProSearcher!

Happy Holidays,

Julia Hasenzahl

2020 has been an extraordinary year. Faced with an unforeseen degree of change brought on by COVID-19 lockdowns that thrust ProSearch – and indeed the entire industry – into new virtual work mode, we all had to find our bearings in a new reality.

The entire shift, though stressful at times, has been an invigorating exercise that brought out the best in us – resilience, adaptability, creativity, empathy, and humor came to the surface. I’m looking back over the ProSearch 2020 Experience, feeling grateful to our team, our clients, and proud of our many accomplishments.

Looking out for each other

At ProSearch, our ability to deliver outstanding results for clients is rooted in our amazing people and a culture based in respect, teamwork, feedback, and continuous learning.  In the face of many disruptions in 2020, we kept our focus on supporting the personal and professional needs of our team members, with frequent communications about all the things that keep us connected as friends and colleagues.

Growing our client community

Our ability to quickly adapt to an increase in remote support for clients, with virtual meetings and consultations, remote collections, and support remote document review, strengthened our client relationships.  And the addition of new Enterprise clients is an endorsement and validation of our Enterprise service model.

Meeting change with new solutions

Emerging technologies are accelerating change in our industry—new data sources and new technology solutions.  To round out our best of breed solutions, ProSearch continues to partner with premier technology and tool providers.  In 2020 we sealed new partnerships with Brainspace, ESI Analyst and TextIQ. Our recently expanded Solutions Advisory team led ProSearch Solutions Showcases to demonstrate how we are using these and other technologies help clients stay ahead of the curve and guide them to successful outcomes.

Never Boring! Challenges ahead in 2021

As 2020 comes to a close, we see legal teams being pulled into issues that businesses never faced before. Enterprises have ever greater obligations to protect employees’ health and safety, while also protecting private data of employees, customers and partners. In response to evolving privacy regulations and increasing enforcement, we see privacy management being addressed more broadly: moving beyond manual or ad hoc responses to data subject requests to solutions that identify and guard protected private information, and giving it the same seriousness given to privilege. You’ll hear more on that effort soon!

These issues are inextricably tied to organizations’ rapidly growing volumes of business data. Many will face new types of litigation cases in the COVID fallout. Massive adoption of collaboration platforms and chat embedded in workflow tools has increased the number and complexity of data types subject to discovery. We saw it coming and stand ready to address it.

There has never been a more critical time for corporations to get their arms around enterprise data, to manage risk and compliance, and execute efficient and cost-effective Discovery processes. We pledge to apply our many talents to their success in 2021.
